Invisalign

If you are keen to have you teeth straightened but don’t like the thought of having to wear traditional train track braces then Invisalign® could offer you a viable and proven alternative. An innovative system incorporating a series of custom-made clear plastic aligners, Invisalign aligners straighten teeth effectively yet are virtually invisible.

Suitable for top and bottom teeth they are ideal whether you are looking to straighten just a few teeth or deal with a more complex issue.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign incorporates an innovative and constantly evolving technology.

Using impressions of your teeth, a series of custom-made aligners will be specifically manufactured for you. These aligners are worn in sequence, moving your teeth slowly into the desired position.

In contrast to traditional braces, Invisalign aligners are made from clear, strong medical grade plastic. They sit around the teeth and are virtually invisible when worn. There are no metal brackets or wires which can rub and irritate the mouth and the aligners can be easily removed for eating, brushing or even for special occasions meaning that their impact on your everyday life is minimal.

A defining feature of the treatment is the unique virtual 3D treatment plan (Clincheck®) which allows us to fully plan your treatment from day one. You can see computer generated images of your mouth which will show you how your teeth currently look, how they are predicted to move and what they will look like when treatment is finished. This plan can also be used to predict the length of treatment and allows your aligners to be made in advance therefore shortening check-up and fitting times.

What is involved?

It is important for your Dentist to check your teeth first to make sure they are all healthy enough to be straightened. The Dentist would then take impressions and photographs of your teeth from which the Clincheck® is produced.

Once you are happy with the projected result seen in the Clincheck® the aligners will be shipped to the practice from the USA. You will need to wear each pair of aligners for a 2 week period before moving on to the next aligners in the sequence. It is important to wear them during the day and night and for between 22- 24 hours each day to ensure the best results.

As you wear the aligners over the weeks and months, your teeth will move gradually towards the desired final position. You will need to visit your Dentist every 6 weeks so that they can check the progress of the treatment.

Treatment length will depend on your personal circumstances and the complexity of your treatment. We will be able to give you a better idea of timing at your initial appointment. The majority of Invisalign treatments take between 6-12 months.

How Much Does it Cost?

The cost of Invisalign is really not that different to the cost of traditional braces. Depending on the complexity of your particular treatment, prices range from between £1400 to £3700.

Does it Hurt?

As with any orthodontic treatment, it is common for patients to feel slight discomfort at times. Particularly when aligners are first put in they can feel quite tight. On the whole, Invisalign should be more comfortable than standard braces as there are no metal brackets and wires which can often irritate your cheeks and lips.

Will I Need to Wear a Retainer?

It is recommended that you wear a retainer after any tooth straightening treatment has finished. This is because teeth can gradually revert to their original position over time.
